Forza Horizon 6 Photo Mode: How to Use It and Where Photos Are Saved

Photo Mode is the quiet reason a lot of people keep Forza installed long after they’ve stopped racing. FH6’s version is generous and good-looking, but two things trip people up: the controls are deeper than they first appear, and saving a photo is a separate, easy-to-miss step from taking one. Here’s how to actually use it — and, more importantly, where your shots end up.

Opening Photo Mode

The cleanest place to shoot is free roam. Stop the car somewhere worth photographing, open the radial/quick menu (or the pause menu) and choose Photo Mode. The world freezes and the free camera takes over. You can do the same from your garage via Forza Vista if you want a clean studio-style shot of the car itself, which is also the quickest way to swap between cars.

During events it’s more limited. You generally can’t pull up the full free camera mid-race the way you can in the open world, so plan scenic shots for free roam or the moments the game hands you a camera. If a photo objective fights you, drop the activity, frame the shot in free roam, then carry on.

Camera, aperture and filters

Once you’re in, the free camera unlocks from the car — move it, orbit, raise or lower it, and adjust field of view to go wide or tight. The settings that matter most:

• Aperture / depth of field — widens or tightens focus. Low aperture throws the background into soft bokeh; high keeps everything sharp.
• Focus — set what the lens locks onto. Pair a near focus point with a low aperture for that “product shot” look.
• Shutter speed — controls motion blur. Leave it high and a moving scene smears; drop it to 0 for a crisp, frozen frame. This is the usual fix for shots that come out unexpectedly blurry.
• Exposure, filters, vignette and effects — your colour grade. Filters are a fast way to set a mood; nudge exposure so highlights don’t blow out.

If you’ve buried yourself in sliders, there’s a reset control — use it and start clean rather than fighting your own settings.

Taking and saving a shot — don’t skip this

Here’s the part that loses photos. Capturing the frame is not the same as saving it. After you take the shot, keep confirming through the prompts until you reach the dialog where you can add a name and description. That is the save. Back out early and the photo is gone — a common, genuinely annoying surprise for anyone used to older games auto-saving everything.

Where your photos are saved

Saved Photo Mode shots go into the in-game gallery, not a folder on your disk. Find them in the pause menu under the Creator/Social area — your creator profile or photo gallery — where you can browse, re-share or delete them. They’re also backed by your account in the cloud.

To get a real image file on PC you have two routes:

1. Save & Share, which uploads the photo to your linked Forza account. You can then sign in to the official Forza website with the same account and download the file. Note: if you only save without sharing, it won’t appear online to download.
2. Your platform’s own screenshot/capture key. Hide the HUD, frame the shot, and press it — the image lands in your platform’s captures/screenshots folder (typically under your Pictures folder). Many capture tools have a “save an external/uncompressed copy” option worth enabling for full-quality files.

Sharing to the community gallery

Choosing Save & Share also posts the photo to the community gallery, where other players can find and like it — and it’s what makes the shot downloadable from the website later. If you just want it for yourself, a plain save (or a platform screenshot) is enough.
